Rhetorical analysis of biblical materials

For the past 20 years, I have been involved in the rhetorical analysis of Biblical texts.

Most recently, this work has led me into the study of these texts using sociorhetorical interpretation as envisioned by Vernon K. Robbins (Emory).

Sociorhetorical interpretation is being used to produce commentary on the Biblical text in the form of the Rhetoric of Religious Antiquity series (RRA) is edited by Vernon K. Robbins and Duane F. Watson. It is series of socio-rhetorical commentaries on the Bible and other ancient religious literature. Volumes in this series will include an introductory volume by Vernon Robbins, and volumes on the biblical books by an array of well-known scholars in rhetoric and biblical studies.

Regular working sessions of the RRA commentary authors are held twice annually: once during the summer (at a location TBD) and once during the annual meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature.

For a brief discussion of my recent work, see the article on my work in the 2007 issue of Expansion, the publication of Saint Paul University Research Services.

Theological Education

As a result of invitations, I have spoken widely on the issues facing theological education today. These have included addresses in Winnipeg, as well as regular presentations to the Christian Medical and Dental Society's annual sessions at Augustine College in Ottawa.
